gate-Startup sewts wins Bavarian Ministry of Economics competition
Advanced robotics startup sewts has won the program “Start?Zuschuss!” against 85 competitors and gains sponsorship of up to 36,000 Euro. Technology-oriented startups may apply twice a year for the competition. A jury of experts chooses especially innovative and sustainable business models.
„By help of the Start?Zuschuss!-sponsorship we will advance our technology and hopefully, by the end of the year, enter the market. We are especially happy that with this supplement we are able to expand our team“, Alexander Bley, one of the three sewts founders, comments the prize. The young team develops the brain of tomorrow’s industrial robots. For that purpose, they use latest machine learning and computer vision technologies, in order to develop highly intelligent control software.
sewts thus converts standard industrial robots or cameras into adaptive systems which are able to react consciously on rapid changes in their environment. This allows for automation of complex functions, which to date could be performed only by men. By means of sewts’ artificial intelligence e.g. robots are thus trained a human understanding of textile behavior. The innovative technology creates a multitude of application possibilities. The vision which powers the founders is a close-to-the-market, sustainable and fully automated clothing production.
The team is happy to have won a sponsorship up to a maximum of 50% of eligible expenditures over a time of twelve months. Supported are spendings for staff, rental fees, market introduction of the product as well as resarch and development. Earlier, sewts had already finished phase 1 of BayStartUP’s Munich businessplan competition and there, too, had proven the sustainability of their business model.
Presently, the sewts team is located at the Garching business incubator for tec companies. There, the founders have access to startup-specific support as e.g. flexibly expandable office space for the growing team. In addition, they can master their challenges by the help of free coaching for founders and may directly compare with the innovative community at the research campus of the technical university of Munich.
About sewts GmbH
The sewts team uses latest machine learning and computer vision technologies, in order to develop highly intelligent control software. Thus standard industrial robots or cameras are converted into adaptive systems which are able to react consciously on rapid changes in their environment. This allows for automation of complex functions, which to date could be performed only by men. Hence today sewts develops the brain of tomorrow’s industrial robots.
For the development of the sewts AI, the three founders Alexander Bley, Till Rickert und Tim Doerks revert to their research background in the field of fiber-reinforced synthetics. Thus, they have acquired a unique know-how simulating and treating technical fiber cloth. During their research work at the technical university of Munich, the three friends had the idea to transfer this knowledge to non-technical textiles in order to offer a textile production which is close to the market, sustainable and fully automated.
