Earth Day 2022 – the gate was there again
On the occasion of Earth Day, more than 400 tech enterprises have started a common campaign: Time for Climate Action. The gate and all participating companies took practical climate protection actions. It was their aim to reach more than 100 million of people and to trigger millions of useful and measurable measurements for climate protection.
For the second year in series Leaders For Climate Action have launched the campaign “Time for Climate Action“. It was their aim to induce a change of meaning of the Earth Day: away from a market-oriented exploitation towards a purposeful cooperation. In this year, LFCA cooperates with more than 400 companies and dozens of partners, among them gate Garching. Together they make tools and information available which are to inspire 100 million of peple to take climate action.
“Given the fact that the worldwide CO2-emissions grow further despite of bold promises and political measurements, it is clear that no one – neither individuals nor enterprises nor politicians – are able to overcome the challenge of climate change on their own. The message close to our hearts is simple: It is time to cooperate across borders, countries and generations. The gate calls on startups to take care of the wood
The participating organisations showed their commitment by launching initiatives like webinars, employee challenges, promotion of environmental-friendly products, or publication of educational material, which brought to life interactive website features and many more. The outcome of this was the campaign „Startups Go Wald!“, wherein gate Garching invites its startups to have a share in climate protection by taking part in a hands-on wood-maintenance-activity.
Earth Day – prerequisites of attending
Not every company was allowed to take part in the campaign „Time for Climate Action“. All applicants were carefully checked for their advocacy of climate targets. Moreover, every member had to disclose their complete carbon footprint and their measurements for the reduction of carbon emissions, as well as to prove the avoidance of funding fossile combustibles.
This year, known brands like Ecosia, Personio, Universal Music, FlixBus, Blinkist, TIER, Idealo, InnoGames, ebay Kleinanzeigen, Shop Apotheke, Mobile.de, Oda, Highsnobiety, Thermondo were among the campaign participants, amongst them gate Garching.
In a joint action, the influence grows exponentially
Leaders For Climate Action and their partners outrival what a single enterprise can reach. Companies left on their own effecting earth day campaigns will have difficulties to achieve a sustainable effect. LFCA and their partner companies have chosen a different way and bundle their resources and skills.
Sifted called last year’s camapaign one of the most effective Earth Day acitivities. The collective, conscious measurements of the campaign do not only reduce emissions, but also create an upward loop of influence. Raising the benchmark for climate protection in common. Time For Climate Action is a non-profit-initiative, i.e. their motive is merely enthusiastic and only serves common welfare.
Let’s get specific: the aim of the campaign and climate action
The aim of the campaign – taking climate action – will be achieved via two channels:
1. First of all, via the campaigns’s hompage. Visitors are encouraged here to take quick and simple climate action. Most of these measurements may be executed within 5 minutes: switching to a sustainable supplier of electric energy, climate protection measures at work, switching to a sustainable bank account, planting trees while surfing, calling on politics and many more. These measurements are communicated in an informative and easy to share format.
2. Secondly, via products and services of the participants. The organizations taking part have built in features for climate action into their platforms in order to lower the threshold for users to make their contribution. Moreover, they inform their customers about sustainable solutions in their field, advertise more sustainable product alternatives, plant trees for every transaction executed during campaign weeks, and many more. Every supporter of the cmapaign uses his individual resources in order to achieve a lasting impact.
Leaders for Climate Action and their partners call on organizations, governments and individuals to join the campaign for the benefit of planet earth. It’s always small acts which produce something great. You also can make your contribution, by either visiting the campaign site and acting now, or becoming part of the movement and motivating others.
