gate Garchinger Technologie- und Gründerzentrum celebrates 20th anniversary
On November 2, 2022, gate Garching celebrated their 20th anniversary directly at the research campus in Garching / Munich – together with startups, alumni, initiators and a robot.
„Gate Garching was a project which needed courage, farsightedness and a vision to be realized in the early 2000s. That was precisely what the Bavarian Ministry of Economics had shown by financing the construction of gate Garching 20 years ago.“
With these words gate director Christian Heckemann welcomed the representatives from the Bavarian Ministry of Economics, Rural Development and Energy, Head of section Dr. Manfred Wolter and Head of Department Dr. Ulrike Wolf, who congratulated the gate.
The guests also included representatives of the shareholders like Jürgen Ascherl, 2nd Mayor of the city of Garching near Munich, Stefan Lange from Kreissparkasse München Starnberg Ebersberg, Dr. Christian Hackl from TUM-Tech GmbH as well as representatives of the Landkreis München, LfA Förderbank Bayern and TUM International GmbH.
In a panel discussion Professor Dr. Helmut Schönenberger and Gunda Opitz from UnternehmerTUM talked about the founders’ landscape in Garching of 20 years before, which then, according to Christian Heckemann, looked completely different:
„Chemistry, physics or engineering students were not envied to have to commute to „Garchosibirsk“, as the campus was called at that time.“
Today, the gate is an attractive location for tech startups. No matter if MedTech, Robotics, CleanTech oder Automotive & Smart Mobility: On the occasion of the anniversary startups like Capsitec, Energyminer, LEVITUM or Devanthro presented their innovative ideas and showed that the gate community is foussed on technological innovations.
