allunderground Gmbh
Kilian Schmid had been thinking about founding a hardware startup for years. As the founder of TUM Boring, he has over ten years of experience in mechatronics. Together with his co-founder, Benedikt Seel, who was on the board of TUM Boring and has experience in construction companies, startups, and consultancies, as well as a background in International Management (ISM), he founded allunderground in 2024. Their goal: to solve one of the most pressing problems of our time by building the tunnel boring machine of the 21st century.
Europe is facing a major challenge: an outdated electricity grid is blocking the energy transition. In Germany, wind turbines have to be switched off every day because electricity cannot be transported efficiently. Conventional methods, such as electricity pylons or underground cables, face resistance and cause high costs and environmental damage. This is where allunderground comes in—with an automated, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly process for tunnel and line construction. This technology enables cities and municipalities to modernize or expand underground infrastructure sustainably—without unnecessarily harming the environment.
Supported by UnternehmerTUM, MakerSpace, the ESA Business Incubation Center, and gate Garching, the Munich-based startup benefits from the innovation environment and is another example of the unique support startups receive at the research campus. With a comprehensive range of services—from development to industrial production and sales—allunderground demonstrates how technical innovation and entrepreneurial vision can revolutionize an industry and enable a more sustainable future.
