Capsitec puts viruses in quarantine

There is no effective treatment or cure for more than 70% of all WHO-listed viruses. As a result, millions of people suffer from viral infections every year, causing numerous cases of death and enormous economic damage.

Being a spin-off from the Technical University Munich, capsitec GmbH, now CPTx, develops a generic antiviral platform with the aim to combat many different viral diseases using DNA nanotechnology.

Their antiviral technology relies on programmable artificial DNA nano-shells that are large enough to encapsulate entire viruses. Once a virus is trapped inside a nano-shell, the virus is neutralized. The nano-shells are highly modular and can be easily programmed to target many different viral pathogens, thus forming the basis for a generic antiviral platform.

HOW HAS THE GATE SUPPORTED YOUR STARTUP?

As a startup center, we have supported Capsitec in its growth. This is what CTO Christian Sigl says about us:

“The proximity to the Garching research campus and the close exchange with other startups and founders in the gate network were of great value for the launch of our company. In addition, the gate-Academy helped us to acquire the necessary know-how in key areas alongside science to successfully build a company.” – Christian Sigl, CTO of capsitec
