They are three entrepreneurial postgraduates with a clear vision: Pedro, Maria and Miguel founded Orbem in 2019 after recognizing the potential for optimizing the combination of AI and MRI for the scanning and classification of biological samples. With their technology, they aim to shape a sustainable and healthy future. In its first application, Orbem is able to determine the sex of a chicken embryo in less than a second. The rapid imaging technology helps to avoid sorting out male chicks. Could you have guessed that this would develop into a success story?

Orbem’s success story: 30 million euros in capital and strong support

Today, Orbem is a highly respected and award-winning tech-company. Since its foundation, the team has won prestigious awards, including, for example: Google for Startups Accelerator, Weconomy Award Winner and EIC Accelerator Grant Winner. In 2023, the team managed to raise a total of 30 million euros in capital from investors.

The cornerstone for a successful future is set: Venture capital fund La Famiglia participates in the latest financing round. Orbem’s investors also include a number of well-known German entrepreneurs, including Hanno Renner, co-founder of Personio, Rubin Ritter, former CEO of Zalando, Forto founders Michael Wax, Erik Muttersbach and COO Michael Ardelt, Kinexon founders Dr. Alexander Hüttenbrink and Dr. Oliver Trinchera, as well as Bastian Nominacher, co-CEO and co-founder of Celonis. With Lohmann, a well-known German poultry farmer, the company was also able to acquire a major new customer.

Orbem had been a tenant at the gate from July 2020 to December 2022. Their growth was supported by us by offices, coaching and community.
