In a nutshell
THE IDEA

Misdiagnosis for patients is a nightmare, but unfortunately not uncommon. Laboratory processes are time-consuming, expensive and error-prone. This is where inveox can help: The MedTech-startup digitizes and automates pathology laboratories with the aim of increasing safety and reliability of cancer diagnoses and boosting efficiency in laboratories.

inveox: one of the most promising startups
In 2018, gate-startup inveox made it onto the Forbes list of “Most Promising Startups” – and not without reason. Since its foundation, inveox has received numerous awards, including “Startup of the Year 2017”, “Top 50 Startups 2017” from “Für Gründer”, the “Golden Pretzel 2018” at Bits & Pretzels, the EIT Health Award 2019, and took part in the Roche Diagnostics/ “Plug&Play Digital Health Accelerator”. The startup has been a member of the World Economic Forum since 2019. In addition to its headquarters in Garching, inveox has branches in Krakow, Poland and Houston/Texas, USA.

The idea for inveox originated in two continents. Maria had her key moment as a founder in the USA in 2015. She accidentally got into a conversation with a pathologist in a café and was made aware of the problem of misdiagnosis in pathology labs. Although her field was industrial engineering, Maria recognized the potential for optimization.

Almost at the same time, as part of a work experience in Munich, Dominik witnessed how a sample was nearly mixed up after a surgery. Maria and Dominik were both studying at TUM and independently of each other spoke to their study advisors at Manage&More. They were introduced to each other – and the story of inveox began.

THE FUTURE OF MEDICINE
THE MISSION

For the MedTech startup, the future of medicine begins in the laboratory. Tissue samples are examined in order to determine whether cancer is active or to what extent it has progressed. And a precise and comprehensive diagnosis is the basis for good treatment.

It is inveox’s aim to enable fast and reliable cancer diagnoses through digitized, fully automated and connected histopathology – from sample collection to the specimen slide. The gate-startup uses process mining and an algorithm to gain insights into what happens to a sample on its journey from collection to diagnosis.

“How can it be possible that I can track my Amazon parcel to an accuracy of half an hour and here, in an area where human lives are at stake, the processes still have so much potential for development?”

INVEOX AND THE GATE
A PERFECT MATCH

“Our success story at inveox is closely linked to the gate Garching. Our first big office! Here we appreciate the dynamic and inspiring atmosphere and the exchange with other startups, the excellent infrastructure (café, lunch, catering, meetings, post office…) and location (subway, highway). Another clear advantage for us is the proximity to our partners such as UnternehmerTUM and MakerSpace. Last but not least, it’s a stone’s throw for many of our TUM working students!”

DOMINIK SIEVERT,
CO-FOUNDER AND CEO INVEOX
