In a nutshell
THE IDEA

Artem Kuchukov wants to spend his time leaving positive impact on people and the environment. With success: in 2016, he and his team founded the startup KEWAZO in order to digitize the construction industry with the help of intelligent robotic elevators and thus improving safety, well-being and efficiency in the construction industry.

KEWAZO as one of the world’s leading construction robotics startups

When the robotics startup KEWAZO moved into the gate in 2018, the office space measured 40 m2. Today it is over 287 sqm, and the team is one of the leading construction robotics startups in the world. KEWAZO is also supported by industry specialists and leading investors. In 2023, the gate startup announced the closing of its Series A financing round of USD 10 million, bringing the total capital raised to date to approximately USD 20 million.

Scaffolding is one of the most demanding, time-consuming and dangerous jobs within the construction industry. But the gap between opportunities and reality in construction logistics is wide. Artem Kuchukov recognized this during his studies at Technical University of Munich (TUM). Together with TUM alumni Sebastian Weitzel, Ekaterina Grib, Eirini Psallida and Alimzhan Rakhmatulin, he developed the idea behind KEWAZO during the Think.Make.Start program at UnternehmerTUM. KEWAZO was founded in 2016, funded by the EXIST startup grant in 2017 and supported by the gate from 2018 on. KEWAZO is on track to become one of the leading construction robotics companies in Europe.

THE FOUNDER STORY
HOW IT ALL STARTED

Scaffolding is one of the most demanding, time-consuming and dangerous jobs within the construction industry. But the gap between opportunities and reality in construction logistics is wide. Artem Kuchukov recognized this during his studies at Technical University of Munich (TUM). Together with TUM alumni Sebastian Weitzel, Ekaterina Grib, Eirini Psallida and Alimzhan Rakhmatulin, he developed the idea behind KEWAZO during the Think.Make.Start program at UnternehmerTUM. BUILDING LOGISTICS: THE FUTURE
THE MISSION

Artem finds his strongest motivation in constant advancement. When KEWAZO was founded, it initially focussed on the assembly of scaffolding, where more than 80% of projects are still carried out completely by hand. The startup’s first product, LIFTBOT, an intelligent robotic elevator for construction and industrial sites, is supported by the ONSITE data analysis platform. Since 2021, LIFTBOTs have been in use on Europe’s construction sites and industrial plants in the oil, gas, energy and chemical industries. KEWAZO’s technology saves 70% of work hours thus reducing labor shortages, reducing the risk of accidents and improving the overall working conditions on-site.

I always wanted my work to have a strong impact in the world,” says Artem Kuchukov. “Setting up my own company was a kind of answer and fulfillment of this desire.

KEWAZO AND THE GATE
A PERFECT MATCH

“For us as a hardware startup, the spacious workshop area at the gate is essential. The fact that we can reach UnternehmerTUM and MakerSpace in a few minutes by foot also makes our everyday life easier. Another advantage of being located on the TUM campus is that the working students don’t have far to travel. That was a unique selling point when recruiting. And last but not least: You can enjoy the delicious food from the gate-Kitchen every day.”
